WHY UPPS?

UPPS is a non-profit organization that provides public information and safety education throughout Michigan's Upper Peninsula. UPPS provides public information and safety education applicable to all forms of physical activity. Our purpose is to assist children and young adults of this region in preventing injury, serious trauma, or death. Through volunteer efforts, the Upper Peninsula Partnerships for Safety sponsors nationally developed programs, including THINK FIRST, Safe Kids and Camp 911.

Safety 1st Today, No Regrets Tomorrow! Each year an estimated 500,000 persons sustain permanent brain and spinal cord injuries in the United States. The most frequent causes of these injuries are motor vehicle crashes, falls, sports and recreational mishaps (especially diving), and violence. Teens and young adults are at high-risk for these devastating injuries, many of which are preventable.

The mission of UPPS is to educate children and young adults through comprehensive educational programs that will reduce the number of these devastating injuries. We have adopted several programs to accomplish this.
